Mosaiclegs Art Studio was founded by Joe Ureña in 1998 with a singular vision: create mosaic art that outlasts the buildings it lives in. Over 25 years later, that commitment drives every project.
We work exclusively with premium Mexican smalti glass — dense, vitreous, and prized for color fidelity and long-term performance in wet environments.
Our studio maintains one of the most comprehensive selections of Mexican smalti glass on the West Coast — over 1,000 colors and tones, hand-selected for consistency and long-term performance in wet environments. Each project begins with material selection.
Creative Director & Founder of Mosaiclegs. With over 25 years of dedication to the craft, Joe brings an unmatched depth of experience to every project. A food enthusiast and devoted family man, he channels the same care and passion into his mosaics as he does into everything in life.
Our master mosaicist with over 17 years of hands-on experience. Miguel brings old-world mosaic technique to every Mosaiclegs project — hand-cutting and assembling each piece with precision and artistic depth. As a mosaic instructor and world traveler, he has trained mosaicists across the globe.
Felipe keeps the studio running. As Art Director and Studio Manager at Moretti Mosaic Studio in Jiutepec, México, he coordinates production schedules, manages material inventory, and ensures every project ships on time and to spec. Behind every seamless Mosaiclegs installation is Felipe making sure the details are handled.
About Mosaiclegs — we are a Southern California mosaic studio founded in 1998 by Joe Ureña, specializing in hand-cut smalti glass pool mosaics, architectural murals, and custom installations for luxury residential and commercial clients. About Mosaiclegs: everything we produce is fabricated in-house in our California studio using traditional techniques and premium materials — no outsourcing, no machine-cut tile, no shortcuts.
When clients ask about Mosaiclegs, the story begins in 1998 with Joe Ureña and a commitment to producing mosaic work that could outlast any other finish in the space. Over 25 years, that commitment has produced installations at San Diego International Airport, luxury estates in Paradise Valley, Arizona, coastal properties in Southern California, and residential commissions across Texas, Florida, New York, and the Caribbean.
Everything about Mosaiclegs comes back to materials. We work exclusively in Mexican smalti glass — a hand-poured opaque glass with origins in ancient Rome — because it is the only material that holds color, reflects light, and bonds permanently in wet environments the way a luxury installation demands. Our artisans cut every tile by hand. No automated cutting, no prefabricated sheets.
