The airport mural
“Day at the Beach” is ours — a 38-foot by 6-foot-6 mixed-media mural in Terminal 1 at San Diego International, in glass and marble, installed in 2005. It is the clearest answer to the question a builder actually asks: can this studio carry something large, permanent and public, on a schedule.
We fabricated it and shipped it ready to set. A tile contractor installed it — which is how every commission works.

Materials, and the coastal question
Most work is smalto, Venetian glass; the material is whatever the project calls for. Smalti — hand-poured opaque glass, over a thousand colors — goes where a design needs fine detail. Both are unaffected by sun, salt or pool chemistry. We also work in tumbled and honed marble and gold-leaf glass. Everything specified for a pool is pool-grade and UV-rated.
Working with builders and designers
We fabricate; setting is a separate trade. Your mosaic arrives paper-faced in numbered sections keyed to a setting drawing, ready for a tile setter. Most clients use their own — and if you don’t have one, the installer who set the airport mural works throughout the county.
Smaller pieces run 3–6 weeks from design approval and larger ones 6–16 weeks. Send the finished dimensions, the substrate and a reference image, and you get a numbered shop drawing before anything is cut.

Waterline borders run $150–$400 per linear foot, floor medallions $3,000–$5,000, and a full all-tile pool floor $35,000–$120,000+.
Do you install?
We fabricate; your tile setter installs. If you need one, the installer who set the airport mural works throughout the county.
Will it hold up in a saltwater pool on the coast?
Yes. Smalti and Venetian glass are unaffected by salt, chlorine and sun, and everything we specify for a pool is pool-grade and UV-rated.
How long does it take?
Smaller pieces — a border, a single medallion — run 3–6 weeks from design approval; larger ones 6–16 weeks, plus shipping.
What do you need to quote?
