A lattice shelf and medallion spa

A custom mosaic lounging shelf framed by a lattice border and rosettes, paired with a flower medallion spa floor.

The pool and spa

Set among mature oaks and redwoods in Los Gatos, this terraced pool pairs travertine surrounds with a fountain wall and twin stairs. The mosaic was designed to feel at home in the classic estate setting.

Corner rosettes frame the lattice border, with smaller rosettes scattered across the lounging shelf. In the raised spa, a flower medallion sits inside a frame of flowers and stars. Cream, terracotta, black and gold connect the mosaic to the surrounding stone.

Design development

The design went through several concepts before the final one. An early concept for the shelf drew on the pools at Hearst Castle, with a Greek key border and gold rosettes; the final design moved to the lattice border and rosettes you see in the finished pool.

Studio fabrication

Each piece was laid out flat in our studio and checked against the drawings before it shipped: the shelf with its lattice border and rosettes, and the spa floor with its medallion frame. It traveled paper-faced, in numbered sections, ready for the tile setter.
