Scroll Medallion Mosaic Pool, North Carolina

A round vanishing-edge pool with a scroll medallion, a gold glass spa and a view over the lake.

A medallion at the center of the water
This round pool sits on a terrace above a lake in North Carolina, with travertine all around, a rock grotto on one side and a vanishing edge that spills toward the water. The mosaic is centered on the pool floor: a large scroll medallion that reads clearly from the house above.
The medallion is drawn in terracotta and brown scrolls on a cream field, with a blue star at its center and green rounds around the rim. The raised spa beside it is clad in gold glass, so it glows against the stone in daylight and under the lights at night.

From color board to studio floor
The design started with a color board: the medallion drawing beside the glass colors it would be made in, amber, cane and bronze for the field and scrolls, spruce greens and cobalt blue for the accents. Once the colors were approved, the medallion was laid out full size in our studio and set piece by piece, scroll by scroll.
